Shot In The Arm

27 Feb

I need a kick in the pants after this weekend.  Work was crazy and the post I intended for yesterday is not going to work. Due to technical difficulties and my wackyness perfectionist tendencies.

With that said, some big bold color is needed to start the week off right.

Lots and lots of color

Domino & Pink

13 Feb

Since it is Valentines Day tomorrow I thought I would post on two things that I love:

The color pink and Domino magazine.

You probably all know about THIS joyful news. Domino is coming back, sort of….they are publishing a special edition called Quick Fixes which will be available this Spring.  From the sound of it it will feature photos from the original magazine along with tutorials on how to achieve some of the decor ideas shown in said photos.  Stay tuned it all goes down April 17th.

Domino certainly delivered on giving the color pink it’s due.  Enjoy!

I always loved the covers Domino. Back then it was a breath of fresh air in the shelter magazine world.  They used fresh and modern fonts, graphics and photography that was not so staged.  No fancy stuff uppity couples here people. Oh and they featured pink…a lot.

I am having a major flash back right now. I remember reading Domino at my desk when I worked at the furniture store when I was in my early-ish twenties.  I got in trouble for reading when I should have been doing client work.  Aw, memories. Do you have any Domino related nostalgia…do tell!

Some Things For Your Friday

10 Feb

Happy Friday party people!

This is a working weekend so no fun times for me.   Posting will be slim to none.  Sads.

But I would like to share some goods I found, things I came upon throughout the week.  Such has a new cupcake bakery that just opened….a mile from my house!

via Sublime Cupcakes-Lititz, PA Facebook page

The ones above are Hot Coco but there are way more flavor delights to choose from such as chocolate caramel pretzel.  Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and pretzel pieces and caramel drizzle….. so so good!

Okay, enough about dessert lets get to the reallllly good stuff.

Around The House

24 Jan

During my blogging absence some things were going down around our little split level.  It was not all doom and gloom, see this post.  Decisions were finalized, book shelves got ordered, walls were painted and nightstands were finished.  More in detail in later posts but lets take a look at what has been done.

West Elm came a knocking on Friday with back-ordered shelves for the office!  Holla, best boxes to come home to after a long work week.  Now they just need to be hung.

Calla Lamp from Furbish on…my….desk.  Sitting  oh so pretty and sculptural.   Perfect lamp to keep the Domino Book of Decorating company.  Speaking of books I received Katie Ridder Rooms for Christmas and it is even better than anticipated, just awesome!  Post and amazing pictures here on my LOVE of Miss Katie and her mad design skillz.

That little digital art print in the background is by Puffed PeoniesCheck them out on Etsy, very cool computer generated illustrations. I’ve been eying up some of their zig-zag patterns, maybe for Tim’s office.  Mine so desperately needs to be framed.  Feeling an Ikea run soon they have a great frame department and excellent prices.

Finally made a decision on choice of mirror for the dining room and I could not be happier!  Read my thoughts on our dining space here. Ended up going with what I really wanted instead of picking a   cheaper option.  That would have entailed many trips to Homegood, thrift stores and hours spent looking over Craigslist.  Belive me I enjoy all that but when you find exaclly what you want it is difficult to picture anything elise.

A special thank you to my sweet boyfriend Tim for going above and buying this for Christmas! So very unexpected and thoughtful.  If only we were as thoughtful to each other when we were trying to hang the mirror.  It was *#$&)ing brutal!

This is just a tiny space beside the bed in our guest bedroom.  Homegoods has been well…..good to me lately. The night stand, little vase and lamp came from them.  Naturally I forgot to take before pics but the night stand was a distressed black finish and not so good lookingMore on that process later but spray paint rules my face a little!  The vintage magazine ads are from a local antique mall and I have two more that I’m not sure yet what to do with yet.  Oh and the walls are to be painted a chocolate brown.

CAN NOT WAIT!

Postive Thoughts

22 Jan

Hi, my name is Jeannie and it has been 38 days since my last blog post.

What the what!  Looking at the calender then typing it out I did not think it was that long.  Time goes fast I need to make the most of it.

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately mostly while pinning and some changes need to happen in order to get what I want. To give some background as to what I’m talking about and why I haven’t been blogging, let me explain my job. I work in retail management and during the holiday season and right after is the busiest (to say the least) time of year.  The hours are long and kind of all over the place.  So I took a break from anything other than Christmas, family and work.  Now that all the craziness is over I can get back to my regularly scheduled programing.

As far as changes go I’m not one to make  New Years Resolutions but I would like to forge ahead with my design business this year (I wrote more about that here and here).  By forge ahead I mean stop just thinking about it and just plain do it.  I have a business plan and a lot of passion and excitement and a potential client so what is stopping me.   Not sure actually.  Procrastinating, the fear of failure, not having a steady income, time management, self doubt. You know all that negative crap that comes along with a major career change.  And I do call it negative crap because that is what it is.  All the things that hold you back from what you really want.  So this year I will push those thoughts aside (oh and the negative people that go along them) and make something happen. Holla!  I will leave you with some wise words from Steve Jobs, one of my favorite quotes and so true right now.

Holiday Dinner Dressy Dress

14 Dec

I never really intended to talk about clothing or fashion on this here blog.  But I got a party/dinner/drinks thing next week and I have nothing to wear.  Well nothing to wear that has not been seen before.  Oh, I call this event a thing because I’m not really sure what it is going to be.  It is with my boyfriends company and they have never had a Christmas party before.  It does not help that he said it will be a surprise. But I’m not whining and asking a million questions complaining it will be fun, I like these people and I get to buy an outfitWin-win situation. Anyway, here are some choices I found onlineThere is a black cropped blazer in my closet that hopefully will be involved.

Old Navy

Emerald one of my favorite colors oh and the price is on the cheap side.

Michael Kors via Zappos

Gold sequin sparkly goodness! The cropped blazer would keep it from being over the top.

Kenzie via Zappos

Love the color and the pleating detail.

Ann Taylor Loft

Unusual color for the holidays and cut would be flattering.

Banana Republic

Again, flattering detail and color.

This is kind of the look that is in my head right now.  Only from the knees up, I will most likely pare it with black tights and velvet round toe pumps.  We shall see.  Almost certain I will closely resemble Miss Olivia, right up to the loose perfectly tossed ringlets and in manner of poising effortlesslyHa!  That necklace is sick by the way.

Realize I have not posted pics of my Christmas wrapping as promised but my phone is not letting me upload to my Flicker account. Hopefully soon.

Wrap It Up

10 Dec

This weekend is going to be filled with Christmasy goddness!  Making cookies, finishing shopping, sending cards and my favorite holiday pass time-wrapping presents!  Every year I plan out what I’m going to do, always with a color scheme or a certain style of trim.  Big plans are made I tell you.  Then I either can’t find what I’m looking for or time runs out.  This year it was going to be simple black and white stripes with silky red ribbon and tags made with glitter backed paper.  Simple, classic but graphic at the same timeYeah…did…not…happen.  So I winged it and made each package different.  I have enough wrapping supplies for a family of 12 and then some.  Think of it a collection total hoarder that spreads Christmas cheerMonday I will share some pics of my lovely wrapped gifts till then here is some awesome inspiration via Pinterest.

The gift wrap directly above is from Marimekko and is available from Crate and Barrel.  I want it like yesterday however most of my wrapping is done!  Maybe for next year, the black and white prints would be awesome with purple velvet ribbon….hmmm.
